KANE COUNTY INFORMATION
Kane County has a total population of more than 515,000 and is home to prominent cities such as Geneva and Aurora. The county was named for Elias Kane who was the first Illinois Secretary of State. The county was formulated in 1837 but over the years was reduced in size when it eventually split off from DeKalb County. Kane County is adjacent to Cook County, DuPage County, Will County, McHenry County, Kendall County and Dekalb County. The census indicates that the population has steadily increased over the past ten years.
Cities within Kane County have a crime rate around the national average. For example, the city of Aurora sees about 600 violent crimes and 3,000-4,000 property crimes per year. This makes the city’s crime rate statistically higher than 57 percent of other cities in the United States. Travel to cities like Geneva, for example, and the likelihood of crime is much slimmer.
